FORS1 Standard Fields and Stars

[bar]

The lists of available calibration fields and stars are given here for various FORS1 setups, i.e. for Bessell filters, Gunn filters, Spectroscopy, empty Fields for Twilight Flats and Polarimetry. The name of the Observation Blocks already prepared by PSO and available for any visiting observer is given, as well as some information on the field or star. These OBs can be retrieved in the /home/visitor/impex/FORS1/ directory. For service mode, PSO staff will use the same observing blocks.

Notes: (1) The OB are prepared both with high CCD gain, four-port readout, (2) The coordinates of the field center have been chosen so that a good coverage of the Landolt star fields is obtained with both SR and HR collimators, (3) Reference: Bessel et al. 1979, UBVRI Photometry (1979PASP...91..589B) and Landolt 1992, (4) The links provide Postscript charts of the areas with SR and HR fields indicated, (5) Coordinates are J2000.

Notes: (*) These stars only have model data above 3200Å, (1) The OB are prepared with high CCD gain, one-port readout, (2) The OB exist in MOS setup (three 5" slitlets) and in LSS, using the largest 2.5" slit -then the OB name contains "lss-" at the beginning, (3) The links provide detailed information on individual stars, (4) There is also a general description as well as an RA ordered list and an RA-Dec skymap for standards including the above listed, (5) Coordinates are J2000.

The OB are prepared with high CCD gain. PMOS have 1-port readout (window with 400 pixels in y), IPOL 4-ports readout. There are 4 exposures with the retarder waveplate at 0, 22.5, 45, and 67.5 deg. The data for these stars are given on the FORS polarimetry page

The OB are prepared with high gain, 1-port readout (window with 500 pixels in y). We have 4 exposures with the retarder waveplate at 0, 22.5, 45, and 67.5 deg. Exposure times are set such as with 0.4 arcsec seeing we get a S/N=400 for each exposure. The coordinates are very doubtfull due to the high PM and we suggest to compare DSS1 and DSS2 to select the fastest star in the field. We'll fix this page later,... sorry!
