WELCOME TO OAN-SPM
We appreciate your interest in visiting the National Astronomical Observatory San Pedro Mártir (OAN-SPM) of the Institute of Astronomy at UNAM. We would appreciate if you read carefully the content of this page before embarking on your journey, taking into account the following considerations:
♦ It is not possible to book or schedule your visit to the OAN-SPM, as this can be canceled at any time due to adverse weather conditions that may affect the safety of access to OAN-SPM (snow, ice, rain, thunderstorms, etc.), or depending on the operational needs of the observatory, according to the Head of Operations in turn.
♦ The OAN-SPM visiting hours are from 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 15:00 hrs, subject to availability as mentioned above.
♦ The OAN-SPM does not guarantee visitors access to the interior of telescope buildings; you can visit any of the telescopes only if the Head of Operations in turn considers it safe and convenient.
♦ A visit to the OAN-SPM does not imply the use of any of the telescopes. Note that the OAN-SPM is a research facility and the telescopes are scientific instruments, which are operated by qualified personnel and are dedicated full time to scientific research.
♦ The OAN-SPM does not charge any amount for guided tours inside its facilities (entrance fee to the National Park is handled entirely by the administration and does not include access to the observatory).
♦ The OAN-SPM remains closed the last two weeks of December and the first week of January, and no visits of any kind are allowed during this period (winter season).
♦ You cannot access the OAN-SPM facilities without a permission of Head of Operations in turn.
