SOPHIA (optical system for wide field images)

Sophia is a wide field image acquisition, which uses as camera a Nikkor lens with a focal distance of 85mm (F/1.4) and a CCD detector. In addition, it has a mount containing a rotating plate and an intensified camera for proper guiding, which is achieved through image acquisition on the edges of the field of view. The total field of view is circular, with a diameter of 30  arcminutes and an image scale of 81.7 arcsec/mm. To make the best out of the large field of view, the displacement of the guiding camera has a polar movement.
