Strömgren photometer (a.k.a "Danés")

danesThe instrument is used for photon counting photoelectric photometry in two modes: the uvby (the Strömgren system) mode and the Hß mode (the Crawford system). An inclined flat mirror, optionally interposed in the optical path allows the user to switch between the two modes.

In the uvby mode, the photometer
uses a diffraction grid to separate the spectral components of the four bands of the Strömgren system and uses four photomultiplier tubes (Electron Tubes 9893Q / 350A) for simultaneous measurement of the four channels. In the Hß mode the light beam is split by a dichroic filter and each resulting beam is sent to two photomultiplier tubes (EMI9789QA) through interference filters to measure stellar continuum and the Hß spectral line, respectively.
